How Social Position Affects Client Experiences Video + CEU Exam

Description
Social identity determines how we label ourselves and others. It provides a sense of belonging to or exclusion from groups. Some groups have privilege, while others are marginalized. Characteristics like gender, race, age, and abilities influence interactions, opportunities, and outcomes for individuals under guardianship. Is someone included or excluded? Advantaged or disadvantaged?

By gaining a better understanding of people’s intersecting identities and how they impact experiences, we can work to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. This session discusses how intersecting social identities shape perceptions, experiences, and relationships, particularly guardianship relationships, and provides strategies for discussing sensitive topics. This understanding will allow guardians to help individuals with a guardian feel valued and supported.
